Show us one of your photos that you’d like to print out and frame.
I can't believe this is the question of the day, because I want to blog this today, but I didn't know how to put it all together. This is some brilliant serendipity for me :)
You know how you have this really intense passion for something, and you find other people out there who share that passion... and then you catch a phrase or image that shows you they do the exact same thing that you do? And it's almost like your whole life, everything right up until that very moment, has finally been justified?
Maybe not. But I remember watching some television interview with Jann Arden (who'd I'd give away both of my dogs for, just to hang out with once) and she was being asked about how she kept track of her song ideas. She said she would sing them into her answering machine. I remember that moment, because I jumped up from the couch, and just about fainted. That was how I was keeping my own song ideas: in fact, I'd been known to overflow the machine and people calling in would get a robot saying that they would have to call back later because there was no room left for a message.
I felt the same way when I saw this picture of Stewart Copeland. You can't see his face, but you know he's hard at work. His desk is a mess, there's stuff everywhere, but dammit he's plugged in and wired up and doing what he does. And this is how I work; this is how my desk is. This is what I do, and this is how I do it. I connected with this photo immediately and found it incredibly inspiring: as in, just get down to business and forget the crap, don't wait for perfection in a clean space and quiet, just do it because what you end up with and who you end up being for having done it all is worth it.
Apparently I get a lot of info and conversation from a photo.
I searched desperately for a source to get a copy of this photo so that I could get a print (hopefully a signed one!) and have it framed for my office or my studio (probably my office -- that's where I do all my composing, and most of my self-loathing and procrastination). I couldn't find it, but I did find that the photographer, Lawrence Impey, is having a show that features this photograph and many other incredibly rare and absolutely delicious pictures of the Police. The show is in London, UK from September 5-23, and you can find out more info about this event at mylifeinart.com -- it's called ON THE BEAT. Lawrence Impey, a longtime friend of Stewart's, has some great photography on his Flickr site as well.
